Star Trek is coming to town

The World Premiere of Star Trek will take place at the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday April 7 with director/producer J.J Abrams and cast members Eric Bana, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban to attend the event. The Nicolas Cage sci-fi action flick Knowing has topped the Aussie box office with the film taking an estimated $2 million over the opening weekend to surprise many after the film copped bad reviews in the press. Monsters Vs Aliens debuts at number one with $58 million

DreamWorks 3D animated film Monsters Vs Aliens has debuted at number one in the U.S with the film taking over $58 million on its opening weekend, making it the best opening of the year so far (beating Watchmen with $55.2 million). Disney & Pixar's UP to open Cannes Film Festival

In a first for the 62 year-old Cannes Film Festival, Up will be the first cartoon and 3D title to open the festival. In the past there have been other animated films that have been shown at the festival including Kung Fu Panda, Over The Hedge, Shrek and Shrek 2. Warner Bros announce new release dates for their biggies

According to Exhibitor Relations and Comingsoon.net, Warner Bros have set the release dates for their key films for 2010 and beyond. J.K Rowling's "Harry Potter" mega seriers finale will see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II hit cinemas July 15, 2010, just eight months after Part I. Another trailer has emerged for the Summer blockbuster TERMINATOR SALVATION. It shows the year 2018 in which the war is in full swing between skynet’s cyborg army and the remains of humanity. Sydney played host to stars Sam Neill and Brian Brown for the premiere of Dean Spanley recently, with the film also featuring Peter O'Toole and Jeremy Northam. Australia, the epic film directed by Baz Luhrmann and starrring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman has become the second biggest Australian film of all time. The star studded romantic comedy He's Just Not That Into You continued it's great opening here in Australia, maintaining it's stranglehold on the top spot with an estimated $1.5 million over the weekend. Slumdog Millionaire secured second spot ar the box office with $1.4 million, following the film's Oscar night domination. Madea Goes To Jail holds onto top spot

Who would have thought? Tyler Perry's Madea Goes To Jail has held onto the top spot at the U.S box office taking an estimated $16.5 million to beat the film everybody had predicted would debut at number one, Jonas Brothers 3D. The three brothers could only manage a very disappointing $12.7 million on it's opening weekend to secure second spot.
